A space to collaborate, access, and augment technology - extending the range of what students can design, create, and learn.
consider a "green screen room on steroids"
- merge our 'advanced technology' in one place, and build on what we already are doing in isolated areas (green screen, cameras/tripods, video editing suite, microphones, MacBooks) >>to extend what our students can learn, create, understand, and invent.
- very open structure at the beginning - and build/revise from there
- space needs high ceilings, large area, hallway exposure, no outside windows or natural light, sizable with the possibility of further expansion
augment - extend the tools of a 1:1 program
examples: cinema displays, specialized softwares that build on school image, sound recording set-up, animation table, green screen video studio. thunderbolt is ideal augmentation technology -- plug in your macbook to a display and have access to screen space, storage, and software.
collaborate - nerve center for working together to create a products greater than individual parts
examples: NIS version of MIT media lab, atelier-style environment, modular spaces, strategic transparency, working beyond our walls, pooling resources, publishing, interdisciplinary co-operation (design, arts, humanities, science)
access - inviting everyone to dream big, extend without barriers, and enable serendipitous discovery
examples: visible workspaces, flexible physical space, solutions that build on previous learning (iMovie > Final Cut Pro X, MacBook microphone > handheld/boom microphones), comfortable for all ages
