Note taking:
Video at the harvard commencement: Misconceptions occur.
Understanding science: very few people understand the cause of seasons. Then i experienced the same sensation because of the mass of the tree survey. I immediately thought of water but then there is the carbon problem so I put in air. ( most trees are carbon based ) .
However, this is not a misconception that is immediately obvious for everyone.
Angela explained the correct answer. Carbon dioxide is needed for the carbon compounds in the tree. Air is the correct answer.
This was a good demonstration of teaching to replace a misconception.
Then there was a question about adding technology is really going to alter student learning. We had a quick discussion and most agreed that it is but there is the problem of how do you measure student learning.
There was then the discussion of reversing the flow of classwork and homework which makes sense if the teaching material is presented in a logical fashion at the wiki. Our discussion did not really get into the logistics of the issue.
The next concept was about the role of the children in the classroom. The idea was that the more the children are involved , the more engaged the children are and the more they are invested in their learning.
Research and globalizing the curriculum were quickly brought up and its hard to argue with these points. Developing research skills can only enhance the learning. Globalization at an international school is quiet relevant.
We then reviewed what went on in the class.
