Our Math 7B class took part in a new way of learning. For their unit on Measurement the students took ownership of the class and developed the lessons, became researchers, instructors, note takers and web developers. The students were divided into 5 groups: 2 Tutorial groups which were responsible for developing lessons and teaching the content to the rest of the class, a Real World group which researched different aspects of measurement past and present, a Note Taking group which was responsible for taking notes for the class and posting them where everyone could read them, and a Web Site group which was responsible for developing the website using the materials from the rest of the class. The teachers and students learned a great deal about putting together a unit like this and with some tweaking, we see the school doing more of this next year.
