final evaluation

Final Evalutation

Describe the strengths of your performance? Did it reflect the era in an accurate way

I think the strengths of our performance is that we made it really funny. We had 2 Isabella and the conflict between them really made some comedy scenes in our play. And also the captain character(me) really shows the audience how narcissist he is and that is also a funny scene. At last when everyone left the stage the doctor was still on it and keep talking, I think this really made a last spotlight and good ending of our play. I think we reflected the era in a quite accurate way but we added some modern element it in.

How could it have been improved?

I think it can be improved by adding a bit more funny scenes. And also maybe we should have more element of that era in stead of using a lot of modern elements.

What contribution did you give to this project?

I played the captain role in this play. And I also gave our group a lot of ideas of how the play should be like, and also when we were remaking our play the captain in it had a lot of funny scenes.

What skills have you learnt while working on this unit?

I learned how to perform different characters, such as isabella, master, servant, captain and doctor. The key of performing each character right is to learn their move right and the way they talks. And you also have to understand the character by reading some information about their personality and family background.

realism theatre

Realism/ Modern Theatre

How did realism evolve? why did it appeal to audiences of the time?

Realism started because people thought that melodrama became boring and then wanted something new. It appeals audiences because the audience can relate their own life and other’s life to the drama.

What are the main difference's between Realism and Modern Theatre?

Realism theatre added real life scenes into the play while modern theatre is just plain dramatic scene.

Which era have you most enjoyed working on and why? ( please provide details)

I think I enjoyed the comedia era most because all of the characters at that era are quite interesting and very characteristic. Its also a challenge to play those characters, you have to make audience understand what you are playing.

Shakespeare Theatre

De scribe the performance conditions in The Globe Theatre. ( comment on the stage space, the audience, the set/scenery etc)

The stage is in the middle of the theatre and there is audiences all around the stage, the design of this is very brilliant because with that design, everyone can see the stage clearly and can see different thing from different angle. The scenery of it is also more complicated and delicate than the theatre before.

How can actors bring Shakespearean text to life. ( focus on the techniques we worked on in class)

They talk in a rhythm which goes like daah dah dah dah dah dah dah.

Why is Shakespeare still relevant for a modern audience?

Because it is epic and entertaining. All of the plays are expressed in the most extraordinary language, bold and memorable characters and unforgettable images. And he also created so many classic pieces.

Comedia

Master-- Movement: Has really big walks. Leans your shoulder forward to walk slowly. Also needs to have frown on your face

Personality: Greedy, and dull.

Attitude: Proud and always commanding people to do things.

Voice: Old and husky

Servant-- Movement: Moving fast with small steps, head looking around and randomly clap to catch a fly.

Personality: Panic and energetic.

Attitude: Doing what people tell them to do, kind of stupid

Voice: Randomly shouting, and talking really fast.

Isabella-- Movement: Always strutting, and doing hair flips.

Personality: Proud and spoiled.

Attitude: Mean and unfriendly

Voice: Very girly voice

Captain-- Movement: Walking really proudly and belly leans a bit forward. Also has big walks.

Personality: Love to show off, loquacious.

Attitude: Self-centered

Voice: Has strong and powerful voice

I would prefer acting Isabella. Because she’s a female character which is easier to show and also I think I can copy some of her movements well.

In this style, each character has its own personality and funny point on them, so the audience would love to see those unique plays.

I think this style survived because of it’s multiple personality and some funny scenes which appealed a lot of audience over ages, so people carried this style on.

Tragedy&Comedy

4.Where were they performed?

The plays are usually performed in a big theatre(kind of like big GYM) with 2000 seats.

5.What are the main techniques used in Greek Theatre?

So far we only learnt chorus. And thats one of the main techniques.

The advantage of using chorus is to stand out more, so when we have a group of people acting and moving it looks more eye catching.
